Who we are

Habitat for Humanity Uganda (HFHU) is a Christian nonprofit organization established in 1982 and affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International. For over 40 years, HFHU has worked to eliminate poverty housing by building, rehabilitating, and improving more than 40,000 homes, transforming the lives of over 240,000 people.

We work with families and communities to promote:

• • Decent and affordable housing
  • Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
  • Secure land tenure and property rights
  • Housing disaster resilience and recovery
  • Livelihood and vocational training
  • Advocacy for housing and land rights policies

Our Board of Directors provides strategic direction, governance, and oversight for HFHU’s mission. Board members bring diverse skills and leadership to guide our growth, ensure accountability, and support resource mobilization.

We are seeking expertise in:

• Legal, Governance, and Compliance
• Fundraising and Resource Mobilization
• Strategic Planning and Management
• Urban Planning, Construction, and Real Estate
• Human Resources and Organizational Development
• Technology and Innovation
• Program Management and Social Services

We also seek strong representation from:

• Government, NGO/development, academia, religious community, private sector, and media.

Diversity matters – HFHU especially encourages women and younger professionals to apply to strengthen inclusive leadership on our Board.

Commitment:

Board service is voluntary, with members expected to attend four meetings annually and actively participate in committees. A modest allowance is provided for official meetings.
