Job Summary (Main Purpose)
Oversee and coordinate The company’s biomedical engineering function, ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and compliance of medical equipment. Oversees procurement, maintenance, and technology upgrades to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
1. Medical Equipment Maintenance & Performance Management
- Develop and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programsfor all medical equipment.
- Ensure the calibration, testing, and validation of biomedical devices to maintain operational efficiency.
- Implement predictive maintenance using AI-driven diagnostics and IoT-based monitoring systems.
- Work closely with medical teamsto ensure equipment availability and reliability in patient care.
2. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Ensure compliance (e.g. ISO standards, COHSASA) and other medical device regulations.
- Conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and safety inspections of biomedical equipment.
- Work with hospital leadership to maintain accreditation requirements for medical technology.
- Develop policies for safe usage, handling, and disposal of biomedical waste.
3. Procurement & Vendor Management
- Liaise with the procurement department to ensure time delivery and execute procurement strategy to ensure cost-effective acquisition of high-quality medical devices.
- Negotiate contracts with biomedical equipmentsuppliers and service providers.
- Evaluate vendor performance through service level agreements(SLAs) and compliance checks.
- Oversee the implementation of new biomedical technology, ensuring seamless integration with hospital systems.
4. Innovation & Technology Integration
- Lead the adoption of AI-powered diagnostics, robotic-assisted surgeries, and smart medical devices.
- Oversee the integration of biomedical equipment with electronic health records (EHRs) and hospital IT systems.
- Work with research teams to evaluate emerging healthcare technologies and clinical innovations.
- Develop pilot programs for digital health and AI-driven patient monitoring solutions.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Staff Training
- Part of the company Committees’- Theatre Committee, SHEQ Committee, QA- Radiology Committee, Multi- disciplinary Committee, SMT
- Provide training programs for clinical teams and technical staff on the proper use of medical equipment.
- Collaborate with doctors and nurses to identify equipment needs and performance challenges.
- Represent The company Uganda in medical technology forums, industry conferences, and innovation networks related to biomedical engineering.
- Work with insurance and financial teamsto ensure cost-effective investments in biomedical assets.

Key Skills and Competencies
Qualifications
Formal education required for competence in the job
- Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Healthcare Technology Management, or Business Administration (MBA).
- Bachelor’s or Master’sin Clinical Engineering, Medical Physics, or Electrical Engineering is relevant.
- Certification in CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician), CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader), or Healthcare Facilities Management is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in a biomedical engineering role, with at least 2 years in a managerial/supervisory position.
- Experience in hospital-based equipment procurement, compliance, and technology integration. Knowledge & Technical Competencies
Registrations, Affiliations, Professional Certifications
- Expertise in medical equipment lifecycle management, predictive maintenance, and regulatory compliance.
- Professional certifications in biomedical equipment technology (preferred).
- Strong understanding of medical device regulations and compliance standards.
- Proven experience in equipment design, testing, or maintenance.
