About Organisation:
Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) emerged from the Mulago – Mbarara Teaching Hospitals Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) which was established in November 2004 under the then Makerere University Faculty of Medicine. Over the last 20 years, we have broadened our work beyond the support of provision of comprehensive HIV and TB services to include capacity strengthening for health care workers across Uganda and conduct research to inform policies for HIV/TB and other HIV comorbidities in the country.

About us: The USAID Local Partner Health Service Project East & Central (LPHS-EC) is a project of Makerere Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) funded by USAID. MJAP was granted the PEPFAR funding Award for the USAID Local Partner Health Services in the East Central Uganda. Under this activity, MJAP supports public health facilities and their communities in 12 districts that include Bugiri, Bugweri Busia, Buyende, Iganga, Jinja, Kamuli, Kaliro, Luuka, Mayuge, Namayingo and Namutumba; to implement quality Integrated HIV/AIDS and TB services and contribute to the attainment and sustenance of epidemic control.
Job Summary: The Back-up Hub Rider will be called-up to support transportation of laboratory specimens and test results from and to designated health facilities served by the project supported Laboratory hubs as and when required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support emergency and unscheduled transportation of laboratory specimens and test results for Viral Load, EID, TB GeneXpert, CD4, CBC, Chemistry, and histopathology tests, including samples/test results from/to health facilities served by the hubs, within the recommended specimen age and defined Turn Around Time (TAT).
- Support electronic tracking of Laboratory samples and test results from lower health facilities through the hubs, using a mobile Application software (ResTrack).
- Maintain proper records for motorcycle mileage, fuel accountabilities and sample/results transportation logs, and submit payment requests following LPHS-EC guidelines.
- Support redistribution of essential laboratory commodities within district, and other tasks as may be assigned by the supervisor.
- Financial Accountability: Uphold MJAP’s commitment to financial integrity by effectively managing resources and accurate reporting of expenditures. Ensure responsible and transparent resource management in compliance with organizational standards and donor requirements and take ownership of any discrepancies that arise.
- Safeguarding: Uphold the organization’s dedication to protecting vulnerable populations, including beneficiaries, staff, and volunteers. This includes identifying, reporting, and addressing safeguarding issues per established policies. Your role is essential in fostering a safe and supportive environment for everyone involved in our programs.
- Risk Management: Actively identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to program implementation and operations. Collaborate with teams to create and maintain risk management plans in line with organizational policies. Regularly review and update practices to address new challenges or changes in the operational environment.
- The position requires a person with at least Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent. UACE or higher qualifications will be an added advantage.
- Possession of a valid riding permit (Class A) at the time of recruitment is mandatory.
- At least 1 year Experience in motorcycle riding, and knowledge of motorcycle maintenance.
- Good knowledge of road Safety and traffic regulations.
- The person should possess good knowledge and skills for proper handling and transportation of infectious and hazardous substances.
- Good people skills and ability to work under minimal supervision.
