JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Purpose
The Aquaculture Specialist purpose is to set up an environmentally sustainable commercial aquaculture “One-stop-shop” service for potential investors and undertaking an Aquaculture Census survey by providing advisory services and an up-to-date national aquaculture database providing information regarding the extent, location and technology of aquaculture production in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and train aquaculture and fish hatchery support workers (fish farmers) with skills in commercial farming.
- Operate and maintain cultivating and harvesting equipment.
- Conduct and supervise stock examinations in order to identify diseases or parasites.
- Devise and participate in activities to improve fish hatching and growth rates. Including, collecting information regarding techniques for fish collection and fertilization, spawn incubation, and treatment;
- Determine, administer, and execute policies relating to operations administration and standards, and facility maintenance.
- Collect process and share information on Aquaculture with the relevant stakeholders
- Determine how to allocate resources, and how to respond to unanticipated problems such as insect infestation, drought, and fire;
- Confer with biologists, fish pathologists, and other fishery personnel to obtain data concerning fish habits, diseases, food, and environmental requirements;
- Advise management on all aquaculture related issues and prepare periodic reports related to fish farming and provide recommendations.

KEY REQUIREMENTS
Personal Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in aquaculture, marine biology or a related basic science such as zoology, chemistry or physics.
- A Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
