Job Title: Animal Production Technician
Reports to: Programme Leader
Salary Scale: Salary Grade UR 6
Age limit: Not more than 40 years

Job Purpose: To plan, monitor and collect data from experiments to support research processes in a programme

Specific Tasks and responsibilities:

1. Develop a field plan for conducting experiments on either the Institute’s research farm or on land belonging to farmers
2. Prepare materials such as measurement instruments, tools and other equipment for undertaking field experiments
3. Prepare the experimental plot, labelling each experimental block according to the field plan
4. Collect data, specimens and samples of insects and ticks from vegetation and farm animals at various experimental plots according to work-plan
5. Collect Preservation, identification of genera and species of insects and ticks to identify diseases they cause
6. Maintenance of ticks and tsetse colonies for insecticide, acaricide resistance sand sensitivity, testing and disease control
7. Application of inoculations, infestations and labelling according to field specifications
8. Conduct disease surveillance by visiting farmers to establish extent of disease and ticks outbreak
9. Participate in baseline surveys to determine farmer needs and production constraints as well as establish the impact of technology adoption

Minimum Qualifications and experience

• A diploma in Animal Production.
• Bachelor’s degree Veterinary medicine or Animal production is an added advantage.

Tenure: The tenure of office for all positions is a 5-year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance.
