Job Title: Animal Production Technician
Reports to: Programme Leader
Salary Scale: Salary Grade UR 6
Age limit: Not more than 40 years
Job Purpose: To plan, monitor and collect data from experiments to support research processes in a programme
Specific Tasks and responsibilities:
- Develop a field plan for conducting experiments on either the Institute’s research farm or on land belonging to farmers
- Prepare materials such as measurement instruments, tools and other equipment for undertaking field experiments
- Prepare the experimental plot, labelling each experimental block according to the field plan
- Collect data, specimens and samples of insects and ticks from vegetation and farm animals at various experimental plots according to work-plan
- Collect Preservation, identification of genera and species of insects and ticks to identify diseases they cause
- Maintenance of ticks and tsetse colonies for insecticide, acaricide resistance sand sensitivity, testing and disease control
- Application of inoculations, infestations and labelling according to field specifications
- Conduct disease surveillance by visiting farmers to establish extent of disease and ticks outbreak
- Participate in baseline surveys to determine farmer needs and production constraints as well as establish the impact of technology adoption
Minimum Qualifications and experience
- A diploma in Animal Production.
- Bachelor’s degree Veterinary medicine or Animal production is an added advantage.
