Enforce biosecurity measures and participate in pest and disease control programs. Collaborate with farm personnel, participate in team meetings, promote farm values, and serve as a responsible representative during outreach activities.

Job Description/Requirements

Role of an Agriculture Assistant at Kanyes Dairy Farm

1. Livestock Support (Goat Farming)

  • Assist in daily animal care: feeding, watering, and cleaning goat pens.
  • Monitor the health and behavior of dairy goats and report any signs of illness or injury to the veterinarian or farm manager.
  • Support in milking activities, ensuring hygiene and proper handling of milk.
  • Help in maintaining records of breeding, births, vaccinations, and milk production.

2. Pasture and Feed Management

  • Assist in planting, maintaining, and harvesting pasture or fodder crops for goat feeding.
  • Mix or distribute formulated feed and mineral supplements based on the farm's feeding schedule.
  • Monitor feed usage and ensure efficient feed storage to avoid spoilage.

3. Support in Organic Fertilizer Production

  • Collect and process goat droppings and farm waste for use in composting or black soldier fly (BSF) farming.
  • Assist in monitoring compost piles, turning them as needed to ensure proper decomposition.
  • Package and store organic manure or BSF-based fertilizer ready for sale or farm use.

4. Data Collection and Record Keeping

  • Record daily activities such as feed intake, health interventions, and fertilizer production output.
  • Maintain logs on milk production per goat or pen, when required.
  • Report daily work summaries and field observations to the farm supervisor.

5. Support Training and Demonstrations

  • Assist during farmer training sessions organized by the farm, especially in demonstrating proper goat care or composting techniques.
  • Help prepare the farm for visitors, training groups, or inspections from extension officers or partners.

6. Equipment and Tool Management

  • Operate simple farm tools and equipment (e.g., milking cans, water pumps, compost turners).
  • Clean and maintain tools after use and report any damage or repair needs.

7. Support in Farm Biosecurity

  • Help enforce farm hygiene protocols (disinfection, restricted access to pens).
  • Participate in pest and disease control programs (e.g., spraying, fencing).

8. Teamwork and Communication

  • Work collaboratively with veterinary staff, production assistants, marketers, and other farm personnel.
  • Participate in team meetings and offer suggestions to improve productivity and animal welfare.

9. Promote Kanyes Farm Values
