Higher Education Resource Services-East Africa (HERS-EA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing leadership, management, and governance in higher education institutions across East Africa. We provide professional development programs, mentorship, and resources to empower individuals and institutions in the region.

Job Summary:
HERS-EA is seeking a dynamic and experienced Accountant to join our team on a part-time basis. The Accountant will be responsible for managing financial activities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and financial planning and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate financial records using accounting software.
• Process payments, invoices, and reimbursements promptly .

• Manage cash flow and prepare regular financial reports for review.

• Ensure compliance with local financial regulations and organizational policies.
• Prepare financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.

• Coordinate with auditors and regulatory bodies for audits and financial reviews.
• Financial planning, forecasting, and monitoring budgets.

• Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
• Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and efficiency.
• Assist in the preparation of grant budgets and support the financial aspects of grant management.

• Track grant funds, prepare financial reports, and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
• Maintain organized financial records and documentation for easy retrieval.
• Any other duties assigned to you by the Operations & Communications Manager

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or ACCA certification preferred.
• Proven experience (minimum of 3 years) in financial management, preferably in the non-profit sector.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Knowledge of local financial regulations and reporting requirements.

Working Conditions:
This position is part-time, with a flexible schedule. The Accountant will be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Contract and Remuneration:
The selected candidate will be offered a one-year contract (subject to renewal), with remuneration commensurate with experience.
