Job Purpose

The Central Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring, controlling, and optimizing the operation of the clinker production process from the Central Control Room (CCR). The role ensures stable, safe, and efficient operation of plant equipment and systems, including raw material preparation, kiln operation, coal grinding, clinker production, and auxiliary systems, to achieve production targets, product quality standards, and operational efficiency while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and company requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Process Monitoring and Control

  • Monitor and control all clinker production processes through the Distributed Control System (DCS) and other control room systems.
  • Ensure stable operation of the raw mill, coal mill, kiln, cooler, crushers, conveyors, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Adjust process parameters to achieve optimum production efficiency and clinker quality.
  • Continuously monitor plant performance indicators and take corrective actions when required.

Kiln and Clinker Production Operations

  • Monitor kiln operation to ensure optimal combustion conditions and clinker quality.
  • Control feed rates, fuel consumption, temperatures, pressures, and airflow systems.
  • Coordinate with field operators to ensure smooth and uninterrupted plant operations.
  • Monitor clinker production rates and ensure achievement of daily production targets.

Equipment Performance Monitoring

  • Identify abnormal equipment conditions and initiate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams during breakdowns, repairs, and planned shutdowns.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and operational issues promptly.
  • Monitor energy consumption and recommend improvements to optimize plant efficiency.

Quality Control Support

  • Work closely with the Quality Control Laboratory to ensure compliance with clinker quality specifications.
  • Adjust operational parameters based on laboratory results and production requirements.
  • Monitor process trends and recommend process improvements.

Safety, Health, and Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure all plant operations comply with Occupational Safety and Health standards.
  • Follow emergency procedures and respond appropriately to alarms and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Support environmental compliance by monitoring emissions, dust control systems, and pollution prevention measures.
  • Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and incident investigations.

Production Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate production records, shift logs, and operational reports.
  • Record process deviations, downtime incidents, and corrective actions taken.
  • Prepare daily shift reports and handover notes for incoming operators.
  • Provide operational data and reports to management as required.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency, production output, and process stability.
  • Participate in plant optimization projects and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to reducing fuel consumption, energy costs, and production losses.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Cement Technology, Process Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience operating a Central Control Room in a cement plant, clinker plant, mining operation, power plant, or other heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience working with DCS, PLC, SCADA, and industrial automation systems.
  • Strong understanding of clinker production processes, kiln operations, and process control principles.
  • Knowledge of cement manufacturing operations will be a distinct advantage.
