With over 60,000 transactions processed and a gross transaction value exceeding USD 500,000, Duqact is now building for scalability.

About the Role

We are looking for a software engineer to join our product team and work on Duqact as we build to scale across Africa. You will design, build, and maintain scalable back‑end services using Spring Boot, responsive web interfaces with React, and mobile applications with React Native.

You will work in a collaborative, hybrid environment, contributing to system architecture, writing clean and testable code, and ensuring high performance across platforms. Your work will directly impact thousands of shop owners and their communities.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop robust, secure back‑end services using Spring Boot (Java/Kotlin).

- Build responsive, intuitive web interfaces using React.

- Develop and maintain cross‑platform mobile applications using React Native.

- Integrate RESTful APIs and manage data flow between front‑end and back‑end.

- Write clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code (unit and integration tests).

- Participate in code reviews, debugging, and performance optimisation.

- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to deliver features.

- Contribute to system architecture, CI/CD pipeline improvements, and cloud deployment strategies.

Qualifications

Essential

- Strong foundation in Computer Science (data structures, algorithms, software design).

- Proven experience building production‑grade applications.

- Hands‑on experience with Spring Boot (or similar frameworks) for back‑end development.

- Proficiency in React for web and React Native for mobile development.

- Solid understanding of Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.

- Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, and front‑end/back‑end integration.

- Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative workflows.

- Knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases.

- Ability to write unit and integration tests (experience with testing frameworks such as JUnit, PyTest, Jest, or similar is an advantage).

- Experience with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).

- Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative hybrid environment.

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Advantageous

- Basic cloud or containerization concepts (e.g., Docker, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is a strong plus.

- Experience building localised, multilingual applications.

- Interest in using technology to improve local service delivery in African contexts.

- Familiarity with offline‑first architecture or mobile apps that work in low‑connectivity environments.

- Experience working in a start‑up or product‑focused environment.
