About Organisation:
The Uganda Manufacturers’ Association (UMA) is the leading non-governmental organization representing, advocating for, and protecting the interests of industrialists and manufacturers across Uganda.
Job Summary: To coordinate and execute all customs clearance, import and export documentation, regulatory compliance, and logistics activities for the company. The role ensures timely clearance and transportation of goods, compliance with customs laws and government regulations, accurate documentation, cost-effective movement of consignments, and proper record management to support uninterrupted business operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze all shipping documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Collect documents from freight forwarders (air and land) and prepare customs declarations/entries for all imports from the point of entry to the point of exit.
- Prepare tax declarations and handling charge schedules and forward them to Accounts for payment processing.
- Coordinate and manage export documentation and customs clearance processes.
- Operate the Customs ASYCUDA system and perform manual booking of customs transactions where required.
- Plan, prioritize, and coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly workloads for incoming and outgoing consignments across the group of companies.
- Arrange transportation of goods from ports, bonded warehouses, and airports to company facilities, including LCL and Entebbe Airport consignments.
- Assist the Storekeeper in verifying consignments upon delivery to ensure quantity and quality compliance.
- Coordinate and book air shipments with carriers and freight service providers.
- Maintain accurate records and filing systems for customs audits and prepare customs-related reports as required.
- Monitor changes in customs laws, regulations, and procedures and communicate relevant updates to management and other stakeholders.
- Support local procurement activities and follow up on purchases for sister companies.Follow up on the acquisition and renewal of special licenses, permits, and certifications from relevant government agencies.
- Liaise with customs authorities, clearing agents, freight forwarders, transporters, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth clearance and movement of goods.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customs regulations, and other statutory requirements related to import and export operations.
- Identify and resolve customs clearance, transportation, and documentation issues to minimize delays and additional costs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in procurement and logistics management
- 2 to 3 years of experience
