Description
Background
The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks. The company sales and distributes electricity in Uganda as per ERA License issued on 31 December 2024 covering over 135 political districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of the Government of Uganda.
Job Title: Database Administrator
Department: ICT
Reports To: Senior Database Administrator
Job Purpose
To manage and maintain enterprise databases ensuring performance, availability, and security.

Performance tuning and monitoring

Backup and disaster recovery implementation
Qualifications & Experience
•
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
•
Minimum of 2–3 years’ relevant experience.
•
A professional certification in database administration or related areas, such as Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft SQL Server certification, or equivalent, is an added advantage.
•
Proven hands-on experience in administering, monitoring, tuning, and securing enterprise databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar platforms.
•
Strong experience in database backup, recovery, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance tuning.
•
Demonstrated experience in system landscape management, including development, quality assurance, and production environments.
•
Good knowledge of operating systems supporting SAP environments, especially Linux/Unix and Windows Server, as well as virtualization and infrastructure dependencies.
•
Good understanding of system security, access management, audit readiness, logging, and compliance controls in enterprise environments.
•
Experience with monitoring tools, job scheduling, root-cause analysis, and documentation of standard operating procedures.
•
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder support skills.
•
Good communication skills and ability to work with technical teams, business users, vendors, and project teams.
•
High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure in a mission-critical environment.
