About Organisation:
YIDA Youth Initiative (YIDA) is a refugee-led and youth-led charity NGO that was formed to promote refugees’ sustainable living by providing quality education and financial inclusion mostly youth and children in the Kyaka II refugee Settlement. YIDA provides early childhood education and primary education to refugee children and in the host communities, through the school construction and training of teachers. YIDA also offers soft skill training to entrepreneurial refugees and offers them startup capital in the refugee settlement and host communities to develop businesses, hence employment and job creation.
Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) assistant to join our team. The M&E assistant will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective implementation and impact of our projects by developing and maintaining robust monitoring and evaluation systems. This position requires a very organized person and a strategic thinker and a passion for data-driven decision-making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitoring and Evaluation Framework:
- Implement M&E frameworks, strategies, and tools for measuring a program on foundational literacy and social emotional learning with project based learning using edtech.
- Alignment with key monitoring, evaluation, and learning questions to ensure smooth implementation, teacher engagement, learner outcomes, etc.
- Manage M&E plans, including data collection, data management, communication
- Ability to execute agreed-upon timelines
Data Management:
- Oversee the collection and support YIDA and LE and other YIDA partners with interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data.
- Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and validity of data through regular audits and quality checks.
- Clear entry of data in agreed-upon formats in a timely manner
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare detailed and timely reports on project performance, including progress towards goals, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Compile data for donor reports and other stakeholder communications as required.
- Communicate on a regular basis (e.g., once a week) with donors like LE MEL team to keep them apprised of updates
- Communicate regularly with YIDA management about MEL-related progress during the bi-weekly meetings.
Capacity Building:
- Provide support to project staff and partners on M&E processes and tools.
- Build capacity within the team to ensure effective data collection, management, and reporting practices.
Data Utilization:
- Support program management in using M&E data to make informed decisions and improve project implementation.
- Identify trends and insights to guide program adjustments and strategic planning.
- Support with report writing and data verification.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and international standards related to M&E.
- Develop and implement procedures for data security and confidentiality.
- Ensure compliance with ethical research for vulnerable populations such as refugees and minors. Gather informed consent and store personally identifiable data very securely.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Experience conducting focus groups or interviews
- Experience collecting surveys and other forms of quantitative data
- Experience conducting qualitative coding and analysis
- Experience conducting descriptive quantitative data analysis and basic data visualization
- Experience with Excel or Google Sheets, and data collection mechanisms such as Google Forms or Qualtrics
- Statistics and Research Methods coursework or experience
- Professional or academic experience working with a non-profit, grant management, and/or education technology.
- Proven demonstration of strong organizational qualities and attention to detail
- Clear, professional writing style and strong oral communication in English
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and meet deadlines and willingness to learn.
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Social Sciences, Education, Development Studies, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to understand some statistical results (e.g., p-values, t-tests, ANOVA), not to conduct the statistical tests independently, but rather to interpret what the results mean
- Working knowledge of nonprofits focused on education and education technology, public policy, funding organizations, and open educational resources (OER).
- Demonstrated success working with teams remotely and as part of a fast-paced environment
