Job Summary: The Assistant Accountant supports the day-to-day finance and accounting operations of Childcare Worldwide Uganda, ensuring compliance with relevant finance and accounting standards and Childcare Worldwide’s financial controls, policies, and systems. Working directly with the Finance Manager, this role provides reliable support to the finance function and helps maintain continuity of routine operations. By maintaining financial integrity, accuracy, and compliance, the Assistant Accountant plays a vital role in advancing Childcare Worldwide’s holistic and faith-driven impact.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Financial Processing and Support
- Process payments and transfers as assigned, ensuring supporting documentation is complete and approvals are in place
- Assist with preparing cash journals, payment vouchers, and ledger entries.
- Support the monitoring and accounting of cash advances.
- Assist in preparing routine finance reports as directed by the Finance Manager.
- Help with bank-related transactions and act as bank agent when authorised.
- Records and Filing
- Maintain organized and up-to-date finance files and accounting records.
- File and retrieve financial documents in line with office procedures.
- Assist in maintaining an accurate asset and inventory register.
- Provide printed copies of accounting forms, templates, and supporting documents as needed.
- Compliance and Audit Support
- Support the preparation and submission of statutory obligations such as PAYE, NSSF, and Local Service Tax under supervision.
- Assist with audit preparation by organizing documents and providing requested information.
- Support the implementation of internal finance controls and procedures as directed.
- General Finance Support
- Assist with routine finance tasks during the Finance Manager’s absence, under guidance where needed.
- Raise issues or irregularities to the Finance Manager promptly.
- Support continuous improvement in finance filing, documentation, and transaction processing.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree: A bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance and Accounting, Business Administration (Accounting option), or a related field from a recognized university or institution.
- Past Professional Accounting Qualification: A recognized partial accounting certification—CPA, ACCA, or CIMA
- Experience: Minimum of two years’ experience in finance and accounting. Experience in a non-for-profit environment is an added advantage.
- Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills and hands-on experience with computerized accounting software, such as QuickBooks, to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.
- Audit experience: Proven experience preparing for financial audits and implementing audit recommendations, ensuring continual financial improvement and accountability.
