LEAD4Africa (L4A) is a dynamic, faith-based organization headquartered in Muyenga, Kampala, Uganda. The organization is committed to developing the next generation of Discipled Nation Builders through its four thematic pillars: Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Academics, and Discipleship (LEAD). L4A operates programs in both Uganda and South Sudan.

L4A is seeking to recruit a qualified and experienced candidate for the following position:

Position Details

  • Position: Africa Operating Officer (AOO) – 1 Vacancy

  • Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda (with approximately 20% travel)

Job Summary

The Africa Operating Officer (AOO) is a senior leadership role responsible for driving operational excellence and ensuring alignment with LEAD4Africa’s strategic priorities. Reporting to the SVP AO&P, the AOO oversees day-to-day operations across Africa, translating strategy into actionable plans and ensuring effective execution across functions including operations, finance, human resources, programs, and ICT.

The AOO serves as a key liaison between Africa operations and the US-based leadership team, supports strategic initiatives, coordinates donor and partner engagements, and promotes efficient, scalable systems and processes to enhance organizational impact and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy: Provide strategic and operational leadership to Africa operations, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and Vision, Traction & Organizer (VTO). Lead the development and implementation of Annual Operating Plans and track performance through KPIs and scorecards.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee cross-functional coordination across operations, finance, HR, programs, and ICT to ensure efficient and scalable processes.
  • Financial Oversight: Support budgeting, financial planning, and performance monitoring in collaboration with the Finance team to ensure financial discipline and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Human Resource Leadership: Promote a high-performance, values-driven culture, supporting performance management and staff development initiatives.
  • Stakeholder & Donor Engagement: Coordinate donor and partner visits, strengthen relationships, and ensure effective communication between Africa and US leadership teams.
  • Strategic Projects & Sustainability: Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives and support business development and investment opportunities to enhance long-term organizational sustainability.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and organizational policies across all operations.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Leadership, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a senior leadership role managing cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in a donor-funded or NGO environment is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing operational and performance management systems.
  • Familiarity with ERP or similar operating systems is an added advantage.
  • Practicing Christian, aligned with the organization’s faith-based mission.
  • Preferred age range: 30–45 years.
