PROJECT BACKGROUND

PlayMatters (2020-2026) is an education initiative funded by the LEGO Foundation. The program reimagines childhood for 800,000+ refugee and host-community children across Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda – children whose education and social development has been affected by displacement and trauma. Building on children’s amazing resilience and a growing evidence base supporting Learning through Play methodologies, PlayMatters cultivates holistic learning for children ages 3-12+. PlayMatters is led by the International Rescue Committee and includes Plan International, War Child Holland, Innovations for Poverty Action, and the Behavioral Insights Team in partnership with the LEGO Foundation.

The PlayMatters Project is seeking a professional consultant to support and train PlayMatters consortium partners in report writing , ensuring clarity, coherence, and alignment with donor expectations. The goal is to enhance the quality of narrative reports, case studies, and learning documents produced by the consortium.

SCOPE OF WORK

Major Responsibilities:

The PlayMatters Professional Report Writing will have Five primary tasks:

    • Provide one-on-one coaching or group mentoring sessions as needed.
    • Review and provide feedback on sample reports from partners.
    • Develop a practical report writing guide/toolkit for ongoing reference.
    • Submit a final consultancy report summarizing activities, outcomes, and recommendations.
    • Conduct a rapid needs assessment to identify report writing gaps among consortium partners.
    • Design and deliver tailored training sessions (virtual and in-person) on:

1.) Structuring and organizing reports

2.) Writing with clarity and purpose

3.) Integrating data and evidence effectively

4.) Adhering to donor and organizational reporting standards

Deliverables:

  1. Training needs assessment report
  2. Customized training materials and facilitation plan
  3. Delivery of at least 2 training workshops
  4. Report writing guide/toolkit
  5. Final consultancy report

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  •  Master’s degree or Doctorate (PhD) in Management, Project Management, International Development, Policy Studies, or other related Social Sciences-Related discipline

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

    •  Minimum 10 years of experience in technical writing or report writing in the humanitarian or development sector.
    •  Proven experience in training and capacity building, preferably with NGOs or consortiums.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Familiarity with donor reporting requirements (e.g., LEGO Foundation or UN agencies).
    • Experience working in East Africa or with refugee-focused programs is an asset.

Language Skills: Strong writing skills (in English) and significant writing experience
