In 2011, Alight helped nearly 2.5 million people get essential services to regain their health and take back control of their lives. Alight works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to communities of refugees and internally displaced persons in seven countries in Africa, Asia and Europe, including Iraq, Kosovo, and in the Darfur region of Sudan and is currently providing for emergency relief and recovery in Haiti. Alight provides shelter, clean water and sanitation, health care, skills training, microcredit education, protection to help survivors of war and natural disasters to rebuild their lives with dignity, health care, security and self-sufficiency.
Job Summary: The Communications Volunteer is responsible for managing our social media whatsapp platforms, sharing of highlights in Transit centers, engaging day to today the different settlements, sharing weekly highlights in activities across the TCs, RCS and settlements. The position will work closely with other members of the Senior Management Team, Technical Coordinators, Program Coordinator for Quality and Learning. The role will be based in Kampala to support Programs team with supervision from Donor Engagement Lead
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sharing regular updates including; presentations, newsletters, one/two-pagers, brochures, and pamphlets, to increase collaborations across field sites and sectors.
- Engaging day to today the different settlements, sharing weekly highlights in activities across the TCs, RCS and settlements.
- Work closely with the MEL team on creation of briefs and external facing reports/ documents to ensure that these are to the quality expected for external dissemination i.e., assessment/ evaluation reports, research briefs, data visualization for briefs, fact sheets, evidence/ impact for pitch decks etc
- Having a Newsletter shared monthly internally with staff
- Follow up on power points and briefs being developed at the field level and provide timely feedback on the quality and presentation of data by teams.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- An undergraduate / Graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication, or any related field from an accredited university including a component on utilizing data.
- Minimum of (1-2) years working experience in Uganda.
- Fluent in the English language
- Possess strong organizational, summarizing and report writing skills.
- Solid experience in creating literature reviews, summarizing complex information and producing advocacy materials.
- Some experience in supporting successful partnership building/stakeholder awareness initiatives.
- Some experience working with members of governments, private sector companies, NGOs and/or multilateral organizations.
