JOB DETAILS:
Purpose:
To enhance post-harvest handling practices in the bean, maize, and rice value chains in Eastern Uganda, specifically in the Sebei, Bugisu, and Busoga regions.
This initiative aims to equip farmers with the skills and knowledge necessary to improve their post-harvest management, thereby boosting the quantity and quality of produce, reducing losses, and contributing to an increase in the volume traded
Scope of Work
The trainer of trainees (ToT) will be required to:
a) Train 550 Farmers, including youth and women on innovative post-harvest handling (PHH) techniques for beans, maize and rice ensuring that each farmer receives training on PHH for at least 2 of these crops. Additionally provide translation services as needed to ensure clear understanding among local participants.
b) Submit Monthly progress reports to the field supervisor
Qualifications:
a) Holder of a Diploma in Agriculture with at least one year of practical experience in agricultural extension. A bachelor’s degree is an added advantage.
b) Proven experience in conducting farmer training, especially in post-harvest handling and quality grain standards.
c) Knowledge of PHH practices for Maize, Beans and Rice
d) Experience in community mobilization and engagement, particularly with smallholder farmers.
e) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in simple, local language.
f) Fluent in any of the local languages: Lusoga, Lumasaba, or Kupsabiny.
g) Strong report writing skills.
