Job Summary:
Our Primary and Kindergarten School in Wakiso, with over 1000 pupils and 80 staff, is seeking a qualified Head of Science Department to lead our science education program. The Head of Science Department will oversee science curriculum development, teacher supervision, and student engagement in science learning, fostering a love for scientific inquiry among primary students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive science curriculum for primary students, aligned with Uganda’s educational standards.
• Supervise and mentor science teachers, providing support to enhance teaching methods and lesson delivery.
• Oversee the science department’s resources, including laboratory equipment, materials, and budgets.
• Promote hands-on, inquiry-based learning through experiments, projects, and science activities.
• Monitor student progress in science subjects, ensuring effective teaching and learning outcomes.
• Collaborate with other department heads and school administration to integrate science with other subjects.
• Organize science-related events, such as science fairs, competitions, and field trips, to engage students.
• Ensure safety and compliance with regulations in all science-related activities, particularly in laboratory settings.
• Provide professional development opportunities for science teachers to stay updated on best practices.
• Foster a culture of curiosity and critical thinking among students through science education.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Science Education, or a related field (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, Physics) from a recognized institution.
• At least 3 years of teaching experience in science at the primary level, with 1-2 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of science curriculum development and pedagogy for primary education.
• Excellent leadership and mentoring skills to guide and support science teachers.
• Strong communication and organizational skills to manage the department effectively.
• Ability to design engaging and age-appropriate science lessons and activities.
• Familiarity with Uganda’s primary education science curriculum and standards.
• Experience with laboratory management and safety protocols in a school setting.
• Passion for science education and inspiring young learners to explore scientific concepts.
