JOB DETAILS:
Reporting to the Transfers Team Lead, the incumbent is responsible for the successful transfer of fingerlings within the hatchery from the SR (Sex reversal) ponds to Production ponds in the Post SR stage while minimizing stress on the fish to improve survivability rates under a bio-secure environment with the right stocking numbers.
KEY DUTIES:
- Lead a dynamic team of transfer technicians involved in transfers within the hatchery.
- Ensure less than 0.5% transfer mortalities related to SR swaps and PSR transfers.
- Ensure proper stocking of fish with special attention to stocking numbers and other related calculations.
- Ensure zero escapees from hapas due to errors coming from the transfer team.
- Participate in any broodstock transfers at hand.
- Organizing working schedules and drafting leave plans for the team.
This will be ensured by successfully leading a team of transfer technicians that is involved in the following activities around the hatchery.
- SR hapa installation within the ponds on time for fry stocking.
- SR Pond and hapa inspections and record keeping.
- Transport tank weekly washing and disinfection.
- Daily SR hapa swaps.
- Check the water parameters of the pond of origin and proper moderation of DO(3-7mg/ltr) and temperatures (24-26°C) within the transfer tanks during transfer.
- Tank preparation executed - tanks cleaned and positioned on truck, with oxygen, regulators, flowmeter, diffuser attached with no leaks.
- Filling transport tanks with water from the pond where fish are coming from.
- Scale, transfer data book and other materials for transfer will be ready beside the hapa/pond of origin on the day of transfer.
- Dissolved Oxygen level in the hapa/pond should be above 2.5mg/L before handling the fish.
- Hapa Dragging to crowd fish in a zero stressful manner during transfers.
- Proper acclimatization of the fingerlings with water from destination production pond before stocking.
- Data verification and approval at transfers.
- Hatchery equipment cleaning, disinfection, and proper storage.
REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in fisheries and aquaculture (minimum).
- At least 2 years of experience in aquaculture or related field.
- Good in basic mathematics.
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Good organization skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to swim.
- Experienced in a similar role is a plus.
