JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose
The Agriculture Coordinator will oversee and deliver agricultural training and support fieldwork activities aimed at transforming rural households into successful agribusinesses. The role involves working with farmers, cooperatives, and other stakeholders to enhance agricultural productivity, improve livestock management, and strengthen supply chains.
Key Responsibilities
1. Livestock Production and Management
• Analyze challenges and opportunities in livestock production and trade, including animal health inputs and services across public and private sectors.
• Strengthen understanding of livestock management, animal health, feeding practices, and livestock marketing.
• Assess current practices related to rangeland management and livestock production within the broader social, legal, and agricultural environment.
2. Crop Production and Improvement
• Work with farmers to improve access to inputs, including improved seeds and farm tools.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance crop production and market competitiveness.
• Collect lessons learned from crop improvement initiatives and develop innovative approaches to strengthen and leverage existing practices.
3. Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement
• Collaborate with agri-processing companies to expand operations and build trade linkages with smallholders and producer cooperatives.
• Support the Union of Agriculture Production Cooperatives to expand and improve services for member cooperatives.
• Facilitate multi-stakeholder sector forums to identify challenges, propose solutions, and generate interest in agricultural development initiatives.
4. Program Development and Evaluation
• Actively engage in the identification, development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of program activities to improve livestock and crop production.
• Ensure program activities align with the broader goals of the client organization and contribute to the transformation of rural livelihoods.
Qualifications and Experience
Educational Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Agriculture, Agronomy, or a related field.
Experience
• 3–5 years of professional experience in livestock and crop production, preferably within rural or development settings.
Skills and Competencies
• In-depth knowledge of livestock management, animal health, and feeding practices.
• Strong understanding of crop production, marketing strategies, and supply chain management.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience in facilitating sector forums and multi-stakeholder collaborations.
