JOB DETAILS:
Overall Responsibility
Supervise the timber production in the Wet mill in line with customer specifications and standard operating procedures and ensure accurate sorting, recording and grading of logs in different sizes.

Key Responsibilities
• Work closely with the Sawmill Manager to ensure that milling is planned according to the log availability and customer orders.
• Executing all daily sawmilling plans and subsequent cutting patterns as instructed by the sawmill manager.

• Oversee the timely timber production activities in the Wet mill in line with milling plans and cutting patterns
• Ensuring that all Wet off Saw timber is stacked according to the respective stack sizes

• Ensure daily timber volume produced is recorded correctly.
• Ensure that all logs are sorted and graded according to the species, length and cutting patterns. And report non-conformances in log quality to ensure prompt follow-up.
• Participate in the Monthly stock take of log inventory and timber volumes
• Ensuring proper housekeeping of the Wet mill section
• Actively carrying out supervision of the sawmilling team (machine operators and general workers) to ensure Labour optimization.

• Troubleshooting all sawmilling machinery and recommending or carrying out maintenance and repairs where necessary.
• Training and mentoring machine operators on milling, troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs on their machinery.
• Carrying out checks on all machines to ensure machinery is in good working conditions.
• Quality control. Checking and ensuring that timber produced meets the standard requirements and further give feedback to milling team where necessary.
• Working closely with managers and reporting emergencies/incidents for timely planning and action.
• Plan and direct production activities and establish production priorities related to effective operations and cost factors.
• Ensure compliance with all environmental, health and safety standards and obligations in the sawmill.
• Supervise all sawmill activities, log deck and log yard employees.
• Perform any other duty reasonably asked of you by Management

Qualifications, Knowledge and skills
• Degree in any field
• Knowledge and experience in managing a Production line gained from working in a reputable company
• Effective Communication skills
• Leadership Skills
