Our client is a Steel Manufacturing Company based in Jinja, Uganda with a large focus on Steel manufacturing, production and distribution. On behalf of our client we are looking for a competent and experienced Computer Numerical Control Operator (CNC Operator) to be based in Jinja, Uganda.
Reports To: The Manufacturing Head
Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda
Job Summary: The Quality Assurance Officer is involved in operating CNC machine including both notching & name branding for all sizes. This role also involves setting up machines, reading and interpreting technical drawings, monitoring operations, and performing quality checks to ensure that steel products meet industry standards. H/she plays a crucial role in maintaining production efficiency and delivering high-quality steel products.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operate CNC machine including both notching & name branding for all sizes.
2. Machine Roll pass for roughing roll as per the pass design.
3. Machine & maintain mechanical spare parts.
4. Adhere to health and safety precautions.
5. Machine Roll pass as per the pass design for all continuous stand rolls.
6. Follow workplace safety protocols, including the proper handling of materials and tools.
7. Prepare and configure CNC machines for production by selecting tools, inputting specifications, and ensuring proper alignment of steel materials.
8. Perform regular quality checks on finished components using precision measuring tools.
9. Identify and rectify any deviations or defects to ensure all products meet quality standards.
10. Conduct routine maintenance of CNC machines, such as cleaning and lubricating parts.
11. Identify and report mechanical issues requiring major repairs or servicing.
12. Communicate production progress or delays to supervisors and relevant teams.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
1. Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
2. Understanding of CNC machine operation in the manufacturing industry.
3. At least 4-5 years post qualification experience as a CNC Operator in steel manufacturing industry.
4. Ability to identify and troubleshoot machine malfunctions and operational issues.
5. Familiarity with operating and maintaining CNC machines.
6. Ability to handle heavy materials and work in a physically demanding environment.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication Skills.
8. Excellent problem-solving skills.
Barriers to Success in Role
• Limited or lack of technical knowledge about CNC machine operation in the steel industry.
• Inability to operate CNC machine.
