CALL FOR ICT SOLUTIONS IN UNSERVED AND UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES

Background

The Uganda Communications Commission and Makerere University Business School launched a nationwide initiative to support ICT solutions that address societal challenges in unserved and underserved sectors and communities. The interventions are intended to make a real impact in Uganda. Known for its entrepreneurial spirit, Uganda still faces challenges in providing ICT solutions to various sectors. Despite the country’s efforts to provide internet connectivity, many rural areas and underserved communities lack access to communication services, ICT infrastructure, and other related services. This digital divide hampers economic growth and limits opportunities for both business and socio-economic development.

To address these challenges, the Uganda Communications Commission in partnership with Makerere University Business School is presenting to you a remarkable opportunity to provide communication solutions to the unserved and underserved sectors and communities. We are seeking competitive and sustainable solutions that can solve societal challenges in unserved and underserved sectors of the economy. Through this programme, we aim to contribute to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16 of promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, ensuring public access to information, and protecting fundamental freedoms. It also contributes to SDG 9, which focuses on building resilient infrastructure and fostering innovation, particularly through increasing access to ICT and "Leaving No One Behind". Locally, the e-Booster programme contributes to the Digital Transformation Roadmap, NDPIII, the National ICT Policy, and the National Inclusive Development Agenda because it recognizes the ICT sector as one that can foster an inclusive, effective, and efficient development through harnessing and utilizing ICT in all spheres of life.
