JOB DETAILS:
Job Summary:
Under the guidance of the Protection Coordinator, the Legal Assistant will provide legal services to the persons of concern at Lamwo Refugee Settlement
Main Duties & Responsibilities
• Project Implementation
• Promote and protect the International Human rights of the Refugees.
• Provide legal counselling to the persons of concern and clearly state judicial systems in Uganda as per identified cases.
• Collaborate with other LWF sector and implementing partners to ensure smooth implementation of legal activities and coordination of efforts.
• Follow up of cases both at the community and police station, make referrals to the respective stakeholders.
• Conduct trainings on National and International laws of Refugees.
• Conduct Prison visits and offer legal counselling.
• Work closely with the community peer group elders, children, and women Community.
• Encourage protection mainstreaming and rights-based approach including gender sensitivity.
• In coordination with OPM, Police and other stakeholders, liaise to conduct ADR and Community Policing.
• Prepare and submit weekly /monthly /quarterly and annual end feature reports on legal issues in the settlement.
• Manage and document legal data.
• Project Planning
• Ensure that all activities have approved work plan.
• Ensure that all work plan is submitted to the Protection Coordinator in time.
• Staff Management
• Ensure that all community-based Structures comply with LWF code of conduct and the child protection policy.
• Report issues that affect the community Base structures to Protection Coordinator.
• Ensure correct documentation of complaints tools e.g. Attendance list, Distribution list, beneficiaries list and ensure proper filing of project documents.
• Liaise with Finance department to manage/ control the budget.
• Project Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
• Conduct regular field visits to all beneficiaries site where project activities are under taken, check on progress and verify existing caseloads needs, document challenges on deliveries and utilizations of protection inputs in line with project objectives.
• Document story of change (Success stories) on a quarterly basis.
• Develop project monitoring plans to ensure project activities are implemented as per the expectation.
Qualifications
• Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Supervisor.
• Required Qualifications, Competencies and Attributes
• University Degree in Law or LLB from a recognized university.
• At least 2 years relevant experience in refugee and human rights protection.
• Computer proficiency

• Good verbal and communication skills.
• Have good management, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills;
• A committed team player with high standards of integrity and honesty;
• Able to coach and develop subordinates;
• Have full drive, initiative, and self-motivation;
• Able to organize and work under minimum supervision

• Knowledge of one of the local languages at the settlement.
