The Sustainable Aquatic Foods (SAF) program is part of the Special Initiative “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems”, (SI AGER) of the BMZ-KT “Life without Hunger - Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems”. It is implemented in Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar and on a regional basis with SADEC. It is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
The Uganda country package, with a focus on small and medium actors in the aquaculture sector, contributes to improved provision of aquatic foods, which, due to their richness in vitamins, essential fatty acids and proteins make an important contribution to a healthy diet and contributes to the food security of the Ugandan population.

Knowledge, skills and competences
• Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, phone, email, the internet) and computer applications (MS Office).
• Very good written and oral knowledge of English.
• Knowledge of either Luo, Lusoga or Ateso languages is an added advantage.
• Politeness and helpfulness in dealing with programme partners and colleagues.
• High degree of self-motivation and team spirit.
Responsibilities
A. Key Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant will be responsible for:
• Supporting and participating in the supervision of the timely and efficient planning, implementation and monitoring of SAF activities,
• Timely and quality reporting and
• Coordination of partners and their programmatic activities.
B. Specific Tasks
The Programme Assistant performs the following tasks:
1. Management and Coordination
• Planning, coordination and implementation of project activities.
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual work plans and budgets, including milestones.
• Implementation of activities as indicated in work plans.
• Preparation of concept papers, technical documents and presentations.
• Preparation of detailed budgets for project activities and supervision/control of the timely provision of funds, materials and services for the implementation of project activities.
• Backstopping and advising of partners and grantees on technical issues.
• Provision of technical inputs and facilitation of meetings with project partners.
• Monitoring and evaluation of partners activities.
• Writing of reports and project documentations.
• Local, regional / national coordination meetings with government and development partners.
• Identifying the need for assistance and funding of partner institutions and NGOs.
• Contributes knowledge, ideas, feedback and lessons learned to the programme team for continuous learning, improvement and innovation.
2. Communication and Networking
• Develops and maintains contact with all important stakeholders.
• Provides technical assistance to local and international experts engaged by SAF.
• Ensures knowledge management by collecting, processing and distributing relevant information.

Qualifications
• Bachelors in degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or related field.
Details of experience
2 years of professional experience in a comparable position.
