Job Title: RF Engineer
Client Brief:
Our client is one of the leading telecommunications companies operating within Uganda and other East African Countries, and they are looking for a Radio Network Planning & Optimization Engineer with a competitive remuneration. An RF (Radio Frequency) Engineer will specialize in the design, development, and testing of different devices and systems that use radio waves for communication.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- RF site planning, design, simulation, optimization, interference analysis and drive-testing and analysis on GSM, UMTS, 3G, 4G, VoLTE & 5G networks.
- Act as the technical engineer of the RF optimization, manage the development of RF specifications and requirements for new products.
- Conduct tests to evaluate RF performance, including signal integrity, power output, and frequency stability.
- Provide design recommendations based on technology standards and equipment specifications especially antennas.
- Conduct System and network analysis, problem solving and infrastructure planning, traffic performance analysis and monitoring and troubleshooting activities.
- Provide Level 1 / Level 2 technical support service to the customers independently or together with a support section;
- Handle customer complaint troubleshooting NR/LTE/UMTS/GSM Radio Network planning & optimization;
- Data collection/analysis, including performance counters, configuration data, and drive test logs etc.;
- Coverage/quality/capacity analysis (parameter, interference, hardware etc.) and troubleshooting, covers it into actionable insights/knowledge;
- Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, test plans, user manuals, trainings for customers, subcontractors and Team Members.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on Systems Engineering experience in wireless industry that is experience with installing and troubleshoot Wireless Access
- Extensive knowledge of radio network planning & optimization in telecom area or other relevant training. With tools like Genex Probe, Assistant, U2000, OMSTAR, Nastar, Mapinfo, Unet, Polystar, Netscout, TEMS etc is an added advantage.
- Experiences with cellular handset RF power amplifier (PA) and front-end module (FEM) product design and great understanding of antennas and selection based on target coverage.
- Have a good command of mainstream technical such as GSM, UMTS, LTE and Perform lab evaluation and tuning using state-of-the-art RF & Microwave test equipment.
- Good knowledge of mobile system architecture, radio interface, protocols and signalling. System parameters in at least three of the main technologies (NR, LTE, UMTS, GSM, etc.)
- Have experience in wireless project delivery, maintenance and knowledge in RF module packaging, Driver test, Log file analysis, KPI/KQI definitions and calculation methods, QoS Improvement experience, Spectrum transformation and performance assurance.
- Established track record as a problem solver and effective team player.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and manage parallel time-critical tasks.
- Good knowledge for IP Addressing, Unix and Database Systems.
