JOB DETAILS:
B1. Overall Purpose of the Job
The Transportation Superintendent is responsible for managing all transportation operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves overseeing staff, scheduling deliveries, maintaining equipment, optimizing routes, and enhancing service delivery.
B2. Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Operational Oversight:
o Coordinate and schedule shipments to ensure timely delivery of products to customers.
o Manage daily planning and truck allocation.
o Dispatch delivery drivers and oversee driver accountability.
2. Inventory Management:
o Maintain accurate inventory records and databases.
o Track inventory levels and shipment statuses for efficient stock-taking and delivery operations.
3. Customer and Stakeholder Relations:
o Communicate regularly with clients, suppliers, and distributors to build and maintain strong relationships.
o Address concerns and ensure mutual satisfaction.
4. Safety and Compliance:
o Oversee adherence to safety protocols and legal requirements for road haulage.
o Conduct inspections, training assessments, and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards.
5. Performance Monitoring:
o Maintain accurate logs and records of shipments and driver activities.
o Monitor employee performance, conduct training, and promote retention.
o Calculate and manage driver allowances, including overtime, drip allowances, and safari allowances on a weekly basis.
6. Problem Solving and Reporting:
o Identify and resolve shipping errors promptly.
o Assist with month-end closing and reporting.
o Optimize routes and identify cost-saving opportunities.
C. Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience
C1. Education:
• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Fleet Management, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or a related field.
C2. Experience, Skills, and Competencies:
• Experience:
o Minimum of five years in Transportation/Logistics, with at least two years in a supervisory role.
• Skills:
o Strong leadership and organizational skills.
o Proficiency in logistics software and tools.
o Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
