JOB DETAILS:
Position Overview
The Library Assistant will support the daily operations of the library by organizing and maintaining materials, assisting staff and students with locating resources, managing book check-ins and check-outs, and ensuring a welcoming and efficient library environment. They will also assist with administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of library services.

Key Responsibilities
Library Operations
1. Organize and maintain library materials, including books, digital resources, and periodicals.
2. Assist students and staff with locating and accessing resources within the library system.

3. Manage check-ins and check-outs of library materials using the library management system.

4. Keep library shelves orderly and books in their proper location.
Student and Staff Support
1. Provide guidance to students on how to find materials for their studies and research projects.
2. Offer basic training on using library catalogs and other online tools to locate information.

3. Assist staff with reserving materials and setting up resources for lessons.
Administrative Tasks
1. Maintain accurate records of borrowed and returned books and other materials.
2. Handle overdue notices and follow up on overdue materials.

3. Assist in preparing monthly usage reports for library resources.
Environment Maintenance
1. Ensure a clean, organized, and welcoming library environment.
2. Monitor student behavior in the library and maintain a quiet, respectful atmosphere for studying.
3. Set up displays or events to promote reading and learning activities.
Other Duties
1. Assist in cataloging and labeling new library resources.
2. Support library events and programs, such as book fairs or reading challenges.

3. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Library Manager or school administration.

Qualifications and Skills
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent; a certificate or diploma in Library and Information Science is an added advantage.
Experience:
• At least 1 year of experience working in a library or educational setting is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
1. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Familiarity with library management systems and basic computer skills.
4. A passion for books and fostering a love of reading among students.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Conditions
• Based in the secondary school library.
• Work hours may vary based on the school schedule, including some evenings or weekends for special events.
