Role Overview
The Data Officer will play a key role in establishing and managing the database for the TBREACH Wave 11 project. The primary responsibilities include setting up, maintaining, and operating the database while also compiling essential data elements for programmatic reports. Additionally, the Data Officer will support quality assurance of programmatic data generated at six targeted public health facilities. This role requires a technically skilled, organized, and communicative individual who can work effectively both independently and within a team.
Responsibilities
• Perform data management activities for research studies carried out under the TBREACH Wave 11 project and at the NTLP including but not limited to
o development of electronic project databases using clinical research forms developed by the project team. Electronic databases must have inbuilt checks to ensure the accuracy of project data
o set up automatic queries for data cleaning and updating of project data.
o Perform periodic data QA/QC of project databases.
• Collaborate with the health facility and project team to periodically perform or supervise data entry and ensure that data collected into the national TB registers is complete and is of high quality
• Support the project team and others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to standard operation procedures.
• Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling with attention to all technical aspects
• Take the lead on providing key data elements for the quarterly reports to the WHO STOP TB Partnership. Produce periodic performance reports for the project teams demonstrating trends and patterns in key project indicators.
• Advise on software needs for data management, data analysis and data visualization as per project needs.
• Plan, organize and conduct training in data management and basic statistical analysis skills for project and health facility staff.
• Ensure digital databases and archives are protected from security breaches and data losses.
Requirements
The applicant for the WALIMU Data Officer job must have.
• University degree in Statistics, Computer Science or Mathematics.
• Additional training in project management or monitoring and evaluation will be an added advantage.
• Program experience in leu of project management/monitoring and evaluation experience is acceptable.
• S/he should have at least 5 years’ experience in a research and/or programmatic setting and should possess demonstratable skills in the use of software such as RedCap and STATA or R programming.
• Experience with Ministry of Health data collection tools and databases e.g., DHIS II will be an added advantage.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with the teams.
• Strong skills in collaboration with multi-cultural and diverse teams
• A team builder with excellent people skills; must be culturally sensitive
• Confidentiality:High level of discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
• Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.
• Should be able to travel frequently to distant field locations
