Company Description
Maata Energy Limited is a Special Purpose Vehicle company (SPV) focused on developing the Atari 2 Small Hydropower Project (Atari 2 SHPP) in Uganda. Located on the western slopes of Mt. Elgon on River Atari, about 72km northeast of Mbale, the project aims to generate electricity and empower communities through job creation and skills development.
Role Description
This is a hybrid (on-site and remote) role for a Project Engineer at Maataa Energy Ltd in Kampala. The Project Engineer will be responsible for tasks related to project management, project engineering, project planning, and communication in the development of the Atari 2 SHPP.
Key Responsibilities;
Under the overall supervision of the Project Manager, the Project Engineer will be fully responsible for Project coordination and assist in the current stage with feasibility studies and potentially later with Construction Supervision of the Hydropower plant with main activities such as:
• Full daily supervision of Feasibility study & construction activities and coordination with all project stakeholders;
• Compliance with approved design, development and work schedule requirements;
• Coordinate meetings, conferences, trainings, and other project-related events;
• Designs and develops documents required in the implementation of the project such as work program, budget, Supervision manuals, Technical Instructions, Method statements and procedure, etc.;
• Preparation of progress report, submission of reports and other information material;
• Approve all interim certificate presented by Consultants, EPC contractors and OE;
• Approve all technical document submitted by Consultants, EPC contractors and liaise with Owner’s Engineer;
• supervise detailed Feasibilities, construction contracts which are mainly EPC, Electro-Mechanical supplier and Interface contract between the two;
• Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
• Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
• Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
• Ensure resources availability and allocation
• Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress
• Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
• Measure project performance using appropriate tools and techniques
• Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
• Perform risk management to minimize project risks
• Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
• Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
• Meet with clients to take detailed ordering briefs and clarify specific requirements of each project
• Delegate project tasks based on junior staff members individual strengths, skill sets and experience levels
• Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals
• Meet budgetary objectives and make adjustments to project constraints based on financial analysis
• Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients as well as other staff members
• Use and continually develop leadership skills
• Attend conferences and training as required to maintain proficiency
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Develop spreadsheets, diagrams and process maps to documents needs
• Ensure seamless daily supervision of construction activities and coordinate with all project stakeholders.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with approved designs and work schedules.
• Manage other Site Engineers and other project teams such as sub contractors, ensuring effective delegation and oversight of tasks.
Other Duties
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the overall success of the Atari II Small Hydropower Project.
• Perform any work assigned directly under , the umbrella organizations
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Water Resources, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in project engineering, preferably in the hydropower or energy sector.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and stakeholders simultaneously.
• Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in project management software and tools.
• Experience with google work spaces-asana etc
