Job Description/Requirements

Key Purpose Statement

To lead, develop, advise on and support the successful implementation of the CDE strategy, business plan and initiatives, so that the Company complies with all statutory requirements and the strategic priorities of long-term growth opportunities, leveraging scale and building fundamental process, system and people capabilities.

Indicate the extent of the role’s involvement in supervision and other team leadership activities.

The role will lead the CDE team in optimising their operations and building capability to ensure the attainment of the overall Logistics objectives. The role will manage the master data directly as well as oversee the CDE function throughout the organisation and ensure that best in class CDE practices are implemented.

Describe the level of interaction within and outside of the company as well as the nature and purpose of the interaction.

This position requires interaction with stakeholders at all levels within and external to the organization, including suppliers, outsourced service providers key management and leadership. As such, this position must be able to effectively engage, negotiate and communicate with functional heads in identifying and resolving cooler equipment and maintenance issues; and selecting and sourcing the right materials handling equipment and initiatives to meet the business needs.

Key Outputs and Accountabilities

1. Business Planning & Initiatives

  • Develop and deliver an effective fleet and CDE strategy and business plan based on research, benchmarking, analysis, insight and logistics expertise.
  • Support the implementation and anchoring of CDE initiatives through engagement, business plan review, reporting against business plan progress, statutory reporting, attendance and participation at stakeholder meetings and team meetings, leading the development and updating of CDE policies, practices and procedures.
  • Monitor financial performance and asset costs, highlight issues and propose remedial action required.

2. CDE Management

  • Monitor cooler utilisation and provide advice on appropriate action to improve this.
  • Monitor market conditions and develop and implement appropriate initiatives to ensure optimisation of cooler management.
  • Manage and control outsourced services and contracts.
  • Ensure optimal CDE Management system functioning.
  • Ensure optimal CDE Management processes, practices and policies.

3. Cooler Equipment Replacement

  • Research and develop specifications and guidelines for new cooler acquisitions.
  • Ensure optimal process for the acquisition and disposal of Coolers, in consultation with the Logistics Director and Manufacturing Director.
  • Evaluate cost effectiveness of proposed Cooler acquisitions and ensure compliance with relevant specifications and legal compliance.

4. Cooler Maintenance

  • Responsible for the allocation of resources required to maintain and repair cooler drink equipment.
  • Ensure availability of safe, efficient and cost-effective Coolers and equipment.
  • Monitor downtime and provide advice on appropriate action to improve this.
  • Continue to develop and monitor preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Manage the outsourced repair and maintenance contracts.
  • Ensure the needs of internal and external customers are promptly and efficiently met.

5. Contract Management

  • Engage stakeholders in Cooler design and management, and procurement planning.
  • Ensure optimal Cooler drink equipment deployment, placement and availability.
  • Monitor and manage performance of key contractors through SLA’s, KPI's and customer feedback.
  • Review, analyse and approve invoices.
  • Evaluate and select vendors and contractors to provide products and services.
  • Provide feedback to the business on contractor performance and jointly manage vendor performance issues.
  • Ensure Competitive rates with manufacturers and service providers.

6. Operational Support:

  • Optimise return on assets.
  • Interface with key stakeholders to identify CDE issues and drive improvement.
  • Track and communicate key financial and performance indicators.
  • Research review and analyse information through CDE industry resources to identify service providers’ available products and services, to ensure the most value to our business.
  • Review all new Cooler orders received, confirming the Cooler requested in compliance with the Company’s requirements, and monitoring one to one Cooler replacement to control inventory
  • levels.
  • Manage processes and practices for fuelling, maintenance assistance, and accidents to keep costs down, retain higher remarket values, increase Cooler uptime.
  • Provide tools to the CDE technicians to enhance their productivity.
  • Provide critical data for analysing the CDE operating costs.
  • Analyse inventory count and age of coolers – to inform decisions regarding correct inventory levels, and disposal.
  • Prepare reports to enable regular evaluation of CDE trends.
  • Support the development of training interventions staff in line with business strategy.
  • Review and manage CDE Auditing process.
  • Review and implement tools to enable business to optimally manage its cooler drink equipment, ensure their implementation and source suitable training to ensure anchoring of new behaviour.
  • Benchmark CDE processes, practices and policies to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Enforce adherence to food safety (FSSC) requirements and Quality standards in the management of cold drink equipment. Report any systemic issues or non-compliance that may compromise the quality and food safety of products.
  • Stop and report to EOSH any safety concerns related to cold drink equipment management, ensuring a secure environment for all personnel as per the Risk Assessments.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement: Mechanical Engineering or Technical Degree or equivalent recognised qualification in Logistics

Experience

  • 10 years Logistics experience.
  • >5 years management experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of FMCG logistics and Cooler management systems and processes.
  • Sound understanding of cooler design, efficiency and environmental conditions affecting operation.
