JOB DETAILS:
Makerere University Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) emerged from the Mulago - Mbarara Teaching Hospitals Joint AIDS Program (MJAP) which was established in November 2004 under the then Makerere University Faculty of Medicine. Over the last 20 years, we have broadened our work beyond the support of provision of comprehensive HIV and TB services to include capacity strengthening for health care workers across Uganda and conduct research to inform policies for HIV/TB and other HIV comorbidities in the country

Project Overview
MJAP is implementing a sub-award grant from the Reach-Out Mbuya (ROM), for accelerating HIV/AIDS Epidemic Control in the Kampala region with funding from the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
MJAP is looking for competent, passionate, and committed individuals to fill the following positions to be hired on rolling basis:
Position: VMMC Clinical Officer
Reporting to: Prevention, Care & Treatment Advisor
Supervises: None
Duty Station: Makerere University Hospital
Duration: 11 months fixed term contract
Job Summary: To develop and implement strategies for providing Safe Male Circumcision and Reproductive Health Services to the identified MJAP clients in line with the M.O.H guidelines.

Roles and responsibilities
• Examine and assess clients to determine their eligibility for Safe Male Circumcision in line with the medical standard operating procedures
• Treat clients with sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)/sexually transmitted Infections (STIs) according to MOH guidelines

• Refer clients who have health complications for example HIV positive, diabetic clients, those with congenital abnormalities by writing for them referral notes and directing them to special clinics
• Follow up clients who have undergone Safe Male Circumcision both at static and outreach client to determine how they are healing

• Manage adverse events that may occur during and after surgery by treating those clients with adverse events according to Ministry of Health guideline.

• Develop and implement strategies for carrying out community mobilization and sensitization for Safe Male Circumcision

• Mentor and coach the circumcision team through continuing medical education (CME) in line with the staff development procedures

Key Personal Competencies:
• The applicant should possess a diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health from a recognized institution.
• Must be registered and licensed by the Allied Health professionals council.

• Certificate of training in Safe Male Medical Circumcision
• At least two years’ experience preferably in a circumcision surgical setting
• Effective communication, team work and collaboration
• Accountability
