Human Capital Business Solutions Ltd is a Boutique HR Advisory Firm that specializes in strategic HR Consulting, Talent Acquisition & Development, Risk Management and Business Process Outsourced Services with our Headquarters based in Uganda and Country Office in Tanzania.
Our client is a Steel Manufacturing Company based in Jinja, Uganda with a large focus on Steel manufacturing, production and distribution. On behalf of our client we are looking for a competent and experienced Account Assistant to be based in Jinja, Uganda.
Reports To: The Finance Controller
Duty Station: Jinja, Uganda
Job Summary: The Account Assistant will play a key role in supporting the finance and accounting team by performing a variety of tasks to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. H/She will be responsible for assisting with daily accounting operations, including data entry, processing payments, maintaining records, and supporting month-end financial close activities.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Support in maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records and ledgers.
• Enter financial data into accounting software and ensure data accuracy.
• Help prepare invoices, purchase orders, and other financial documents.
• Reconcile bank statements and assist in resolving discrepancies.
• Assist with month-end closing activities, including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Support in the preparation of financial reports, budgets, and forecasts.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards.
• Assist in preparing tax filings and reports as needed.
• Organize and maintain physical and digital financial documents for easy access.
• Support senior accountants with audits and financial reviews.
• Respond to internal and external queries regarding financial information.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• At least 3-5 years post qualification experience in an accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with accounting software (e.g., Tally. ERP).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong analytical skills to assess financial reports, detect errors and ensure accuracy.
• Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks such as processing payments, reconciling accounts, and tracking supplier invoices.
• Strong problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues such as discrepancies in invoices or missing payments.
Barriers to Success in Role
• Limited or lack of technical knowledge about finance or accounting.
• Inability to use Tally (ERP systems) or similar accounting software.
