JOB DETAILS:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Resident Engineer to oversee and manage the construction of a 500-bed hospital project in Kampala, Uganda. The ideal candidate must have at least 10 years of experience and significant expertise in managing healthcare projects, particularly in the capacity of a Resident Engineer. The Resident Engineer will ensure the project is completed to the highest standards, on time, and within budget, while ensuring compliance with all healthcare construction regulations and standards

Job Responsibilities:
• Oversee all aspects of the hospital construction project from planning through to completion.
• Act as the primary point of contact between the client, contractors, and other stakeholders.

• Review and approve construction plans, drawings, and specifications, ensuring alignment with healthcare standards.
• Manage site activities to ensure the project meets its technical, financial, and schedule objectives.

• Monitor contractor performance, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.

• Conduct regular site inspections to ensure construction works are progressing per the schedule and design.

• Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the construction process, coordinating with all relevant parties as needed.
• Ensure all work complies with local building codes, industry standards, and healthcare regulations.
• Prepare and present regular reports on project progress, budget status, and any challenges or risks.

• Collaborate closely with the design team to address any on-site design modifications or issues.
• Ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials and equipment necessary for the project.

• Lead and mentor the on-site engineering team, providing guidance and support as needed.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years working as a Resident Engineer on healthcare projects.
• Proven experience managing large-scale healthcare facilities, preferably in hospital projects.
• In-depth knowledge of healthcare construction standards, codes, and regulations.
• Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage a diverse team.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in East Africa or other developing regions.
• Knowledge of local building codes and regulations in Uganda.
• Professional Engineering (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification is an advantage.
