On behalf of our client TOTAL ENERGIES, we are looking for a competentskilled, and experienced Senior public relations officer (North Nile)to work in Kampala.

Reports To: Public Relations Coordinator

 Activities:

The job holder is responsible for the following;

The Senior Public Relations Officer (North Nile) is entrusted with the task of managing and enhancing the public image of the Company in the North Nile Region under the supervision of the PR Coordinator. This position entails the implementation of comprehensive communication strategies, active engagement with the media, and the fostering of relationships with key stakeholders  in the region

 Main roles and responsibilities;

  • Communication Strategies: Work closely with the Public Relations Coordinator to design and execute robust communication plans that effectively promote Company and Tilenga Project community’s initiatives, programs, and events.
  • Stakeholder Communications: Ensure that messaging is consistent across all communication channels and suits the targeted audiences in the region.
  • Media Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with local media.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local government officials, businesses, and other key stakeholders.
  • Public Affairs: Monitor and analyze public policy issues that impact the community. Advocate for the Company’s initiatives with local government officials.
  • Event Management: Plan and coordinate Company events, public meetings, and other outreach activities.
  • Crisis Management: Implement issues and crisis communication plans.
  • Work closely with the Community Liaison Officers to establish and maintain good will and support from the local communities around the project area.
  • Liaise with and answer enquiries from stakeholders such as media, local leaders and influential members of society and ensure feedback.

Accountabilities:

  • Promote and increase the visibility of company activities, policies and initiatives in the region (prepare press releases, coordinate press engagements, events and respond to media inquiries in a timely manner.)
  • Establish and maintain strong working relations with the key influencers, local leaders and authorities within the region.
  • Writing regional press releases (local language), representing the company at radio, television and community talk-shows, update and maintain a database of media contacts, manage media engagements in the region, organizing radio talk shows, etc
  • Work closely with the Community Liaison Officers and Touriism liaison officers to foster community relations through events such as, meetings, open days and through involvement in community initiatives, in relation with the community liaison officers, tourism liaison officers
  • Lead the organizing and coordinating external stakeholder field visits within the North Nile Tilenga Project activity area.
  • Ensure that events are well-organized and effectively communicate the community’s message.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for media during a crisis and ensure the timely and accurate dissemination of information.
  • Monitoring and analyzing local media coverage and community sentiments about Company and project activities.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

Qualification

 Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Public Affairs, or a related field is required.

 Experience:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in public relations, public affairs, or a related field, preferably in the North Nile Region.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the oil and gas sector, government operations, media and civil society.
  • Possesses an in-depth understanding of the local issues within the Albertine Graben, with a particular focus on the Acholi and West Nile regions.
  • Fluency in English and Alur/Acholi languages (writing and speaking).
  • Maintains evidence of active / ongoing relationships with the media, local authorities, including cultural, religious, and opinion leaders.
  • In-depth knowledge of local government and council procedures and mandates with the ability to analyze the external political environment and developments, providing strategic advice to management.
  • Proven experience in media relations, including writing for the media and a keen interest in current affairs and news coverage.
  • Proactive, with proven social / networking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Photoshop, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
