JOB DETAILS:
IFDC is a public international organization active in 27 countries in Africa, Asia, and America. Responsibilities
• Identify and on-board farmers into organized groups called project villages and take them through sessions of Participatory Integrated planning (PIP);
• Register farmers and support the cascading of training to generation 1 and 2 households;
• Implement farmer support programs, including agronomy and nutrition trainings, farm visits, management of demo plots and input plus out-market support;
• Identify potential risks and develop action plans;
• Collect and enter data for the BRIGHT M&E system;
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, local partners, and stakeholders;
• Provide technical backstopping to farmer innovators and other project support personnel at ground level.
Reporting and Work Relationships
The Field Extension Workers (FEWs) will be reporting to the IFDC Field Officer for the region as it will be specified in the contract.
Location
This is a national recruitment with a duty station at the IFDC office based in Kigezi region in the districts of Kabale, Rubanda, and Kisoro.
Salary
FEWS will be paid Ug. Shs 600,000 (Six hundred thousand Uganda Shillings only) per month subject to 6% withholding tax subject to completion of the targets set for that month.
Based on the monthly targets set out for each month, each FEW will be paid upon submission of a detailed report of activities done, targets set for that month and data entered into the MIS. The contract is a one-year assignment with a possibility for extension. The monthly activity report should be submitted on the 25th of every month for review and approval.
Benefits
A monthly Transport allowance of UGX 150,000 (One hundred fifty-thousand Uganda Shillings only) and Airtime allowance of UGX 70,000 (Seventy thousand Uganda Shillings only) will be provided to each FEW.
No additional benefits will accrue to the above position.

About Program/Project
The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is implementing a project titled ‘Building Resilience and Inclusive Growth of Highland Farming Systems for Rural Transformation (BRIGHT)’, with funding from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN) in Kampala, Uganda.
BRIGHT intends to empower and build the resilience capacity of farm households and the farming systems to increase household income, food, and nutritional security of all farmers; and transform households from subsistence-oriented farm households to more market-oriented and entrepreneurial farmers. The BRIGHT project targets working with 106,560 Ugandan highland farmer households in Kigezi, Mt Elgon, and Rwenzori regions.
We are seeking the services of (14) Agricultural Field Extension Workers (FEWS) to organize smallholder farmers into groups (Project Villages) Located in Kabale, Rubanda, and Kisoro, Districts in the Kigezi Region. Each extension worker will be responsible for at least five (5) project villages. He/she will conduct farmer/group training, promoting best practices, encouraging farmers to adopt project interventions, data collection and activity plus progress monitoring.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and implementing various activities related to nutrition, agronomy, VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Associations), sustainable land use management, gender aspects, and data collection in the field. This role requires a proactive.
Required Experience
• Diploma or certificate in either agriculture, agribusiness, forestry, or a closely related field;
• Experience and passion in extension work, farmer/group mobilization and training;
• Must be a resident of the above area who understands the local language and the local environment;
• Proven experience with running farmer trainings;
• Willingness and ability to work extensively in rural areas with farmers.
