Position Summary:
The Workshop Manager oversees daily workshop operations, ensuring efficient repair, maintenance, and overhaul of diesel generators. Responsibilities include managing a team of technicians, maintaining high standards, ensuring health and safety compliance, managing inventory, providing excellent customer service, and continuously improving processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work, including service reports and equipment logs.
- Manage budgets and control costs to ensure efficient operation of the workshop.
- Provide training and development opportunities for team members.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workshop processes.
- Train all temporary mechanics and newly hired mechanics in line with organization policies and procedures
- Assist site administrator in organizing and reviewing meetings with MONUSCO to improve performance continuously and qualitatively.
- Work beside the site administrator to monitor site activities and ensure compliance with company procedures and policies.
- Recruit, train, and induct mechanics to achieve and maintain designed staffing patterns.
- Work beside the site administrator to organize and conduct interviews perform background investigations and provide onsite tests to all prospective employees.
- Develop and maintain relationships with management and mechanics to resolve employee issues, concerns, and grievances as per existing company policy.
- Manage mechanic pool by evaluating performance and counseling employees to improve performance.
- Send daily, weekly, and monthly reports to the site administrator and project manager
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Project Completion Rate: Percentage of projects completed on time.
- Quality of Work: Number of return jobs or customer complaints due to workmanship.
- Inventory Turnover: Efficiency in managing inventory and minimizing stockouts.
- Safety Compliance: Number of safety incidents or violations reported.
- Customer Satisfaction: Feedback from customers regarding service quality and response time.
- Team Productivity: Output and efficiency of the workshop team.
- Budget Adherence: Ability to manage costs within the allocated budget.
- Training Hours: Amount of training and development provided to team members.
- Equipment Uptime: Percentage of time that equipment is operational and available for use.
Experience, Skills and Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering.
- Extensive experience in diesel generator maintenance and overhaul.
- Relevant technical certifications in diesel engine repair and maintenance.
- Proven experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a workshop setting.
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, including troubleshooting and overhaul procedures.
- Strong mechanical and electrical skills.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Excellent team leadership and project management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage inventory and control costs.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
