Sales Promotion Officer
Job Purpose
Deal with day-to-day distribution and marketing of a cooperative's products and services to its customers. Works with other officers to set the overall direction and objectives for product and service offerings.
Company background
Give details of when the company was founded and which industry it deals in Mount Elgon Coffee and Honey Co-operative Society Limited (MECHCSL) was established in June 2017 as an informal farmers group and officially registered by the Registrar of Cooperatives on November 12, 2017. After farmers from the Bugisu region started receiving low revenues from coffee sales and poor payment terms from the agents of exporting companies, a group of 34 pioneer farmers started the process of forming a farmer-owned coffee and honey social business organization.
Their main aim was to overcome the burden of middlemen who were demanding high commissions, thus leaving member farmers unable to meet production costs. Additionally, member farmers had little access to farmer services like agro-inputs, credit, extension services, and training.

Reporting to: General Manager
Responsibilities
- Research and analyses market trends, competitor offerings, demographics, and other information that affects marketing strategies.
- Uses research findings and analysis to provide direction regarding upcoming market innovations, new products or services, and overall strategy.
- Identifies areas for improvement in product offerings, sales tactics, marketing strategy, and promotional activities.
- Monitors marketing and sales performance and adjusts strategies as needed.
- Adheres to and implements all cooperative’s policies and procedures.
- Notify members about the receipt of their produce and ensure that they are paid in time.
- Participate in stock taking exercises at defined intervals to ensure accuracy of stock records and avoid losses either through changing market prices or theft or quality issues.
- Review and monitor stock levels in accordance with prescribed Stores Management Guidelines.
- Ensure that stock records are accurate, complete and account for all purchases and issues always.
- Ensure that the Store and environment are always clean and neat
Candidate specification
Educational requirements
- At least a National diplomas or degree Marketing or Business Administration majoring in Marketing or any other related qualifications.
- Work experience.
- Good communication skills both oral and written.
- Good numerical skills coupled with attention to detail, and excellent team working skills are desirable.
- High level of integrity.

- Outstanding skills, knowledge, and other attributes. Eg creative skills, negotiation skills, and communication skills.
- Soft skills in understanding and handling clients, target market, the value of your product or service, and broader consumer trends
