Accountabilities

A - BASIC FUNCTIONS

Directly handle the Commercial Fuels accounts and grow the business. Supervise, direct, train, and motivate the Retail & B2B Sales staff to meet and exceed company market share and profitability goals by building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships. Coach and mentor, the team to maximize sales and to correctly interpret market conditions to derive maximum value.

B- PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Directly manage Commercial Fuels base business and grow the portfolio through the implementation of sales strategies and marketing plans to deliver sales growth.
  • Manage overall development and implementation of sales strategies and marketing plans to deliver sales growth and market share objectives for each of the Company's sales product lines and channels – Commercial & Retail Fuels & Non-Fuels Business, LPG, and Lubricants.
  • Negotiating contracts for Retail expansion. Steward the growth of the service station Network and negotiate key decisions for the service station lease/purchase-including backcourt partners.
  • Provide team leadership through supervision, direction, and coaching to enable each member to achieve agreed objectives. Additionally, ensure staff is developed to their full potential on the backbone of succession planning.
  • Hold overall accountability for Sales results including volumes, revenue, and margins, timely collection of trade accounts receivable, planning and forecasting, and Non-Fuels Income.
  • Responsible for all budgeting and expense control within Sales, including endorsing capital expenditure decisions that require medium to longer-term investments
  • Motivate the team to be self-driven, results-oriented, and seek win-win opportunities to develop long term value to the company
  • Influence, develop and empower team members to set and attain high goals, and regularly appraise them through the performance management system
  • Recognize employee initiative to do the business, and seek innovative and cost-effective solutions to meet customer needs, within business controls
  • Build strong internal and external business relationships to leverage team effort and provide greater negotiation and influence when called for; foster cordial working relationships
  • Take the lead in the hiring of Sales staff and identify suitable training opportunities for everyone to strengthen the team and enhance collective experience
  • Provide leadership in creating a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly atmosphere through raising safety awareness

Financial Management 

Manage the allocation of budget across the Department to ensure complete adherence and highlight any deviation from the plan in a timely manner and take corrective action as necessary and in line with the approved governance process

Consolidate all reporting department’s budget input to formulate department budget and submit to leadership for approval and further consolidation

People Management 

  • Ensure that every employee has a Job description that reflects the expectations of the management about the position held
  • Ensure, at the beginning of the year, that employees have been assigned challenging goals and that they are aware of the management expectations, along with set deadlines
  • Provide guidance to direct reports, mentor and coach them when necessary
  • Ensure that the staff is provided with the relevant training and materials needed to perform their job effectively and efficiently, in line with their job descriptions
  • Monitor performance and give feedback and appraisal reviews on a regular basis to ensure that performance objectives are met
  • Formulate workforce planning reports and talent acquisition plans and budgets for the department to ensure adequate staffing for optimal operational smoothness, and submit them to the leadership for approval
  • Identify talent for pivotal roles from a succession management standpoint to ensure business continuity and liaise with HR for enrolment in the necessary program
  • Hold regular meetings with the staff in order to strengthen the social climate, and to improve effectiveness and efficiency at work
  • Promote effective communication on all levels of the organization within the company and with other Corporate functions and Group affiliates

Compulsory Skills & knowledge:

  • 15 years of experience, with at least 10 years in Sales at a supervisory and managerial level.
  • Good understanding of the Petroleum industry
  • Ability to steward a complex business with Strong communication, motivational, innovative, and interpersonal skills.
  • The high degree of professional ethics and integrity
  • Good planning, discipline, and organization skills
  • Strong written & spoken English language

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Office 365 (Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Planner, Yammer)
  • Experience with Accpac / SAGE 300
  • Experience with remote collaboration and management
  • Experience with real estate and project management

Supervision: a team of approximately 6 employees

Remuneration:

  • A competitive monthly gross salary range of UGX 5.4 to 8.5 million to experienced Candidates; payable 12 times per year at the end of every month.
  • Annual performance bonus if the criteria set by the policy are met by the company.
